Overview

It’s handy to have access to all tags within Grafana. The tag tree lets you browse available tags and quickly select one. Once selected, use the chosen tag as a dashboard variable to filter panels.

This guide includes:

• TimescaleDB SQL to create materialized views that build the asset and tag hierarchy
• A refresh procedure and Timescale job
• A Grafana dashboard JSON with an Interactive Tree Panel and supporting panels

Prerequisites

• TimescaleDB or PostgreSQL with TimescaleDB extension
• A schema with tables: asset(id, enterprise, site, area, line, workcell, ...) and tag(asset_id, name, timestamp, value, ...)
• Grafana 10+ with PostgreSQL datasource and the “Interactive Tree Panel” plugin
